Installation and Performance
Collaboration with Josephine Devanbu and Rio Roye
Visitors are invited to answer the ringing phones placed throughout the gallery, sit down, and have a conversation with the person on the other end. The gallery holds a variety of different scenes—a living room, waiting room, dining room, and garden—that serve as context and content for conversation. Explicitly staged, the performance invokes the call center devoid of apparent purpose, facilitating a meta-experience of the phone call. The artificial circumstance asks interlocutors to consider the constitution of the subject and the politics of conversation as mediated by technology.
